Let’s Get Ready (LGR) is working to ensure that all students, regardless of background, have the support they need to complete a college degree. For many students, the challenge isn’t academic ability — it’s navigating systems not designed with them in mind.

First-generation and low-income students often face confusing financial aid processes, limited academic support, mental health challenges, and basic needs insecurity. Without clear guidance and a sense of belonging, many ultimately leave college.

LGR addresses this gap with a high-impact, virtual, scalable near-peer coaching model. Each student is paired with a trained college student coach who provides ongoing, personalized support through weekly check-ins and real-time communication, helping students stay on track, overcome obstacles, and build confidence. If challenges escalate, a multi-tiered support system ensures timely, targeted interventions so no student falls through the cracks.

LGR has supported nearly 90,000 students since its founding in 1998 by Eugenie Rosenthal.

On the heels of a successful 5-year plan to scale to serve 25,000 students by 2025, LGR is currently supporting 42,000 students across the country as they work to earn a college degree.

Our Commitment to Rigorous Evaluation and Data Transparency

Let’s Get Ready holds itself to the highest standards for data and evaluation. We take pride in the level of rigor used to collect and manage our data and the accuracy of the results we report to our funders, partners and the public. In addition to regular monitoring of our outcomes and comparison against the best apples-to-apples benchmarks we can find, LGR conducts internal and external studies using rigorous methodological designs. Using a rigorous quasi-experimental design, the research firm Mathematica found that Let’s Get Ready had a significant impact on first-to-second-year retention rates among community college students. Read more.
Let’s Get Ready is currently participating in a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving 9,000+ students from nearly 30 colleges randomly assigned to Let’s Get Ready compared to similar students assigned to other interventions and a control group. Outcomes include first-to-second-term and -year retention, GPA, and six-year graduation rates. The study is led by the Behavior Change for Good (BCFG) initiative out of the University of Pennsylvania. Let’s Get Ready has partnered with Mathematica to provide additional third-party evaluation analyses.
